Home Care Powered by AUAF Attends Taste of Polonia
September 26, 2022Home Care Powered by AUAF was thrilled to attend Taste of Polonia this year. The city of Chicago has the second largest Polish community in the country behind only the country of Poland itself. As a result, the event is not only the largest Polish festival in the Chicago area, but in the country.
About Taste of Polonia
In 1977, the Polish community set out on its mission to create a permanent cultural center for themselves within Chicago. It wasn’t until 1979 that the Copernicus Foundation (named after a renowned Polish astronomer) located the Gateway Cinema. The theater once housed “talkies,” some of the first films with sound.
Instead of tearing down the historic building, the Copernicus Foundation preserved the beautiful theater. The foundation built its cultural center around it, which became the Copernicus Center. Eventually, this became the official home for Taste of Polonia. Here, tens of thousands of Chicago citizens come to enjoy music, food, and other performances highlighting the Polish community.
Our presence at Taste of Polonia
Following a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Taste of Polonia is finally back. Home Care Powered by AUAF happily attended the event. Our staff had the opportunity to enjoy the festivities on September 3, 4, and 5. Throughout the long weekend, we celebrated the vibrant Polish culture and gladly acquainted ourselves with the community as a whole.
Our booth was designed to be fun for the whole family. We prepared a spinning wheel with various prizes for attendees to enjoy—from coloring books to Bluetooth speakers. In addition, we spoke with our visitors about our non-medical home care for seniors and our family caregiver program.
